RD2SD converts real dates to "star" dates. RD2SD computes star dates using
a method that is mostly consistent with that used for "Star Trek: The Next
Generation", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager".
Usage : RD2SD mm-dd-yyyy hour
or : RD2SD c <- Current date will be converted
or : RD2SD p <- Prompt for a date to be converted
Rules:
*) When you specify the month, you must use the ordinal number of
the month. January equals 1, and December equals 12.
*) When using the first style shown above, the numbers may be
separated by any character, such as spaces, slashes, colons or
almost anything else.
*) When you specify a year, you should use the four-digit year.
If using the first style shown above, you may omit the century.
If you omit the century, RD2SD will assume 19xx for numbers 80
through 99, and will assume 20xx for numbers 00 through 79.
Notes:
*) The star date that Captain Picard gives at the beginning of
"Encounter at Farpoint" as 41153.7 would be the real date of
February 26th, 2364, at just past 6 in the morning.
*) The star date that RD2SD gives is computed as follows:
1) Each star year is divided into one thousand star days.
Leap years are also divided into one thousand star days;
there is no "leap day" in a star year.
2) The first star year began in real year 2324 a.d.
Star year 0 is real year 2323 a.d. Earlier years are
given as negative numbers. However, the *portion* of
the year will always be accurate, no matter what the
year is.
In other words, June 19th, at 19:00, in non-leap years,
will always be: ##'465.18, even if the year portion of
the star date is negative.
3) The star date is a combination of the star year and the
number of star days that have passed.
